The GEL-LYTE III 07 REMASTERED sneaker is being released as a special edition to celebrate both the model’s 35th anniversary and the retirement of its original designer, Shigeyuki Mitsui. The model, designed by Mitsui-san, retains its iconic split-tongue construction, with which it made its debut in 1990. At the same time, key components such as the signature GEL technology in the midsole continue to ensure everyday comfort. To honor this anniversary, the collection is dedicated to a profound theme: “coral.” In Japanese, “35” can be read as “san-go,” which also means coral—a play on words rooted in Japanese culture that evokes the coral wedding, traditionally celebrated on the 35th wedding anniversary. Much like the GEL-LYTE III itself, coral is prized for its diversity, vibrant colors, and durability, making it a fitting metaphor for the model’s enduring popularity and design versatility over three decades.
